Nha Trang City Full Day

This fulll-day city tour introduces you to Nha Trang’s most iconic sights. Your host is an experienced, English-speaking tour guide. Leaving a historic footprint on this wonderful coastal town. This tour will help you understand how the city evolved over time to become the tourist hub that it is today.

8h00: Departure from your hotel to the Oceanographic Institute

The Oceanographic Institute, founded in 1923, was one of the first centers for scientific research in Indochina. The Marine Creature Museum displays tens of thousands of saltwater and freshwater specimens, including live ones in tanks and outdoor ponds. A number of these creatures are rare and endangered.

You can’t miss the huge whale skeleton that’s 26m long and 3m high and weighs 10 tons; or the enormous crab with 1.2m legs. Visitors will find valuable information about the East Sea’s natural resources and ecosystems.

Cathedral this famous cathedral in the heart of the city is the seat of the archdiocese of Khanh Hoa province. It’s officially called the King Cathedral, but local people often call this French Gothic structure the Mountain Church for its location on a small hill which enhances its appearance. Construction began in 1928 and finished in 1933.

The building is dominated by a tall, square clock tower surmounted by a large crucifix. Colonnaded cloisters with stained-glass windows run the length of the building. The three impressive cathedral bells were cast in France in 1789 and installed in the 1930s.

The Long Son Pagoda at the foot of Trai Thuy hill is the largest pagoda in Nha Trang. Tens of thousands of travelers visit it each year. Founded under the abbotship of Ngo Chi Thanh in 1886, the pagoda was rebuilt several times and even had to be relocated after a typhoon in 1900. The current pagoda is dedicated to the Buddhist monks who died while protesting against the Diem regime in the early 1960s.

Halfway up the steps is a 17m-long and 5m-high statue of the Reclining Buddha (Nirvana), and a bit further along, a large, 2.2m shrine bell weighing 1500kg.

These towers on a hill north of the city were built by the Cham civilization between the 7th and 12th century to honor Yang Ino Po Nagar, the mother of the Hindu kingdom who is still venerated by many as the protector of Nha Trang. Only four of the original six towers remain, but it is one of the biggest Cham complexes in the country and affords a great view of the city and Cai River estuary.

The site has had religious significance since the 2nd century AD, and local Buddhists, Cham and ethnic Chinese come here to worship among heady incense aromas.

The Chong (Husband) Promontory, just north of town in the sand dunes near the Cu Lao fishing hamlet, includes many large boulders lying on top of each other. Perhaps not surprisingly, they have been a rich source of local folklore involving fairy giants.
The large boulder at the tip of the promontory is said to bear the hand print of a fisher giant who fell from the cliff when the fairy he was spying on saw him. Nearby is the Vo (wife) Promontory which is smaller with the a shape of woman who looks out to sea.
